Flavor Profile
Alpine Gin begins as Idlewild’s Rocky MTN Vodka, distilled from malted barley and corn. They then redistill with a handful of unusual botanicals— specifically peach skins and cucumber peels.
Tasting notes
Aroma: Rich, vanilla hued pink peppercorn on the nose— suggestive of tonka bean with some hints of coumarin. Lemon zest, lavender, and some piney juniper round out a complex nose that calls to mind an alpine meadow.
Flavor: Sweet, almost candy lavender, with some bright lemon peel. Mid-palate some notes of stone fruit, specifically nectarine, rose, and coriander. It ends with some hints of marzipan and lavender macarons with vanilla.
Finish: Bright with little astringency or warmth. The finish is short, but intriguing with lavender flavored baked goods and an echo of summer stone fruit.
Cocktails and suggested serves
Idlewild Alpine Gin might be at its best in classic mixed drinks. I recommend the gin and lemonade or gin and tonic. It pairs nicely with an elderflower tonic water.
In terms of mixed drinks, it mixes like a bold flavorful contemporary gin. Try it in a White Lady or a Blackberry Bramble.
Overall, Idlewild Alpine Gin
Floral, contemporary, but balanced— Idlewild Alpine Gin is a great gateway gin for those new or unsure about the category (are those consumers still out there?).
If you’re a fan of floral contemporary gins, that haven’t completely forgotten about the juniper, Idlewild Alpine Gin is worth seeking out.
