Described as a “French style” gin, Floral Alchemy combines several floral botanicals including rose, lavender, elderflower and heather— distilled on a neutral grain base in Colorado to create a bold botanically driven expression.
Tasting notes
Aroma: Delightfully floral and true to the name. Lavender leads, with fruity rose hip and some perky hints of mandarins and lemon.
Flavor: Early some warmth with hints of spice— coriander and a hint of cardamom, even a touch of vanilla. Mid-palate, it becomes a bold floral bouquet with rose, heather, and clover along side juniper. Elderflower quickly rises taking front and center with jammy rose hips and a touch of honey crisp apple. Orange zest lies as a background note with some terpey, piney, and green juniper poking through.
Floral Alchemy Gin is certainly floral forward; however, there’s a lot of depth and evolving flavor outside of those notes. There’s even a good note of juniper— it’s not the boldest most dominant note, but it is present.
Finish: Dry with a moderate warmth. Hints of rose hips, cardamom bread and grapefruit pith. Soft mouthfeel throughout that lingers for a bit on the edge of the palate. First, citrus with a hint of pith, then the glow of a dull warmth.
Cocktails and suggested serves
While I thought Floral Alchemy Gin was excellent neat or simply prepared in a Dry Martini, it works quite well in a range of cocktails.
At the risk of being too matchy-matchy, Floral Alchemy Gin pairs nicely with a sweet creme de violette. Aviations, Moonlight Cocktail, or Arsenic and Old Lace.
I thought it was best paired with fresh lemon. The French 75 was outstanding— especially when mixed with a touch of cassis or garnished with raspberries. It might be among my favorite serves for any gin.
Overall, Floral Alchemy Gin
Fans of floral contemporary gins will find a lot to like about this gin. Floral Alchemy embodies the spirit of the drink’s name without being one note. Spice, citrus, and juniper all present in ways that highlight and balance the gin’s signature flavor profile.
