Fever Tree’s latest limited edition tonic water features an array of natural flavorings including apple, lemon, cucumber and mint. It is sweetened with fructose and is 17 calories per 100 mL.
Tasting notes
Aroma: Initially, lots of apple. But beyond that initial burst, there’s still apple, with delicate hints of citrus and cucumber discs in water. Pleasant and unusual among tonics.
Flavor: Lemon is much bolder on the palate. It offsets heavy notes of red table apples. The mid-palate reveals quite cucumber with a mild, restrained quinine bitterness.
Finish: Slight green leafy note in the background, amidst some moderately tart citric acid.
Overall, Fever Tree Summer Garden Tonic Water
It’s less floral and less suggestive of a summer garden than I might have expected based on the branding. However, that aside, the flavor is evocative and full of notes suggestive of a bountiful harvest.
Some might say this is more aptly an apple and lemon flavored tonic water. Pair it with heavy juniper forward gins for contrast, or elevate the citrus in your contemporary style gin. My biggest suggestion is to consider the flavor of your gin before pairing with this tonic water. It’s not for every gin, especially gins that are already botanically bold or richly floral.
