Proof Cocktail Co.’s line of ready-to-drink bar strength cocktails features and are each individually blended in a tank before bottling. Their Proof Cocktail Co. French 75 is self-described as “gin and white wine with natural flavors” and is canned at 14.5% ABV.
Ingredient list: Sparkling wine, gin, lemon juice and simple syrup.
Tasting notes
Color: Pale straw
Aroma: Chardonnay and white grape juice and bottled lemon juice.
Flavor: Long lasting, tight effervescence with small bubbles. Mildly tart and acidic lemon on the early and mid-palate. Late, slight hints of yeasty champagne flavor give way to gin character. Coriander and angelica root, with some lingering citric tartness on the edges of the palate.
Moderately sweet— Proof Cocktail Co. French 75 is slightly sweeter than your usual bar made French 75, but it’s appropriately balanced.
Finish: Clean and crisp, with the sparkling wine’s grape characteristics faintly lingering.
Overall, Proof Cocktail Co. French 75
The French 75 is a hard cocktail to pull off in a can; however, Proof Cocktail Co., just like Freeland Spirits, have managed to pull it off. In comparing the two, which are both good, Proof’s gin reads as slightly more traditional in flavor and the wine is brighter with no tannic character.
In other words, I think Proof Cocktail Co. French 75 more closely matches the original cocktail. Combined with its portability, this canned cocktail is easy to recommend to fans of the drink.
