Tasting notes

Aroma: Shy, with a slight hint of juniper. A bit of ethanol as well.

Flavor: Quiet at first, with an almost clear note of grain based vodka. Juniper comes on at a medium low intensity on the mid-palate. It’s green and classically pine-forward.

Later, a pronounced warmth begins to emerge from the spirit. A touch of cream, a hint of vanilla, and the overall din of ethanol.

Finish: With a warmth that builds on the palate as it is sipped, there’s not much else to note in terms of flavor.

Cocktails and suggested serves

According to some promotional materials from sellers of Starr Blu Gin, they recommend serving it chilled. That will indeed mute some of the nose (and warmth) and accentuate that slight amount of juniper in here.

I recommend approaching Starr Blu Gin from the mixed drink perspective. In a gin and tonic, you’ll pick out a touch of juniper. But anything bolder? Lemonade? Bitter Lemon? Cola? Juice? Even for a relatively inexpensive gin the botanicals are shy, often receding into the background. You will taste the vodka like notes of the base spirit even after the juniper is overpowered.

Overall, Starr Blu Gin

There are many reasonably priced, even bargain options that have more gin flavor than this.

I don’t know how many other sites are using AI or disingenuous journalism to describe the flavor of this gin— but please beware. “Exotic spices,” “remarkably smooth,” “magnificent burst of exotic spices and hearty herbs.” I won’t name names. You’ll see them if you Google this gin.

The sad part is, there’s no need for nonsense. I’ll write you a positive, completely honest review: “Starr Blu Gin is an affordable mixing gin with a subtle juniper flavor.”

Is Starr Blu Gin one I’d recommend? Probably not. I think you can get more flavor for the price.
